If you’re staying in Reading over the Christmas period, it’s likely you’ll be looking for some festive activities. Here are a few of our favourite Christmas events taking place in Reading this December.
Twilight Trail
Reading’s Biscuit Town Twilight Trail returns to Forbury Gardens and the Abbey Ruins from 3rd-31st December. This year, the trial is biscuit-themed to celebrate Reading’s link with the world-famous Huntley and Palmers biscuit factory. Specially created by one of the UK’s leading light trial producers, Luminism, the trial is a fun open-air experience for all ages
A Christmas Carol
Reading Rep Theatre presents the original Charles Dickens Christmas Tale, A Christmas Carol. Step back in time to Victorian England to meet Ebenezar Scrooge and join him on his encounters with the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, who try to help him see the festive joy of Christmas. An entertaining production by Beth Flintoff.
Reading’s Winter Wonderland
With over 20 rides and attractions, including an ice rink, an Apres ski bar and Santa's Grotto, there is plenty to get you in the festive spirit at Reading’s Winter Wonderland. There is a selection of seasonal food including German sausages, mulled wine and winter cocktails, along with festive stalls. Winter Wonderland is located in Hills Meadow by Reading Bridge and entry is completely free.
Lights & Liminality at Basildon House
Witness the National Trust Grade I listed property, Basildon House, being transformed into a winter wonderland, as nature is welcomed indoors and the house is dressed in Christmas decorations. The grounds have also been turned into an illuminated woodland trail, so you can take a Christmassy walk amongst the trees.
The Snow Queen
A new play written by Anna Wheatley, The Snow Queen is based on the original story by Hans Christian Andersen. Join Gerda as she sets out on a treacherous journey across Scandinavia to save her brother, Kai, who has mysteriously disappeared.
